Palawan Electric Cooperative

PALECO IN ACTION
Monthly Tarabiangan and Electrikalye Persist Despite Rain

Despite the sporadic rains experienced in Puerto Princesa City today, June 21, employees of the Palawan Electric Cooperative (Paleco) from the main office pressed on with their monthly Tarabiangan (massive line clearing operation) and Electrikalye held at the Covered Court of Barangay Salvacion.

Male employees of Paleco took on the challenge of clearing fast-growing vegetation threatening the integrity of distribution lines from Barangay Tagburos to Barangay Salvacion. With the aid of 10 newly acquired chainsaws, the clearing operation was conducted efficiently, covering a significant area despite the weather conditions. According to Engr. Rother C. Omilda, Chief of the Area Central Engineering Division, all necessary permits for the use of these chainsaws were secured ahead of the activity. He also shared that an additional 20 chainsaws are scheduled for acquisition to address recurring power interruptions caused by vegetation and wildlife interference, particularly in areas where non-insulated lines remain.

Paleco’s efforts were bolstered by the support of partner private contractors FP Electrical Engineering Supply and Services and Eltra Electric Power Control System. The Cooperative extends its sincere appreciation to these partners for their continued collaboration and assistance in fulfilling Paleco’s mission.

While the line clearing teams worked in the field, other employees carried out the Electrikalye initiative—bringing essential services directly to the residents of Barangay Salvacion. More than 70 residents availed of services including mobile bill payment, application for new electric service connections, change of account name or ownership, access to the information and complaints desk, a kWh meter exhibit, and a pre-membership education seminar.

Additionally, employees from the Area Central Member Services Division distributed notices of disconnection, with accompanying information drives to help members better understand the importance of timely bill payments to sustain cooperative operations.
Tarabiangan and Electrikalye are voluntary monthly initiatives of Paleco employees, inspired by the proactive leadership of General Manager Rez L. Contrivida, PEE. These activities are not limited to Puerto Princesa City but are regularly implemented across Paleco’s service areas, including Area North and Area South.

Meanwhile, employees from the Area South Operations Department simultaneously conducted Tarabiangan from the DMCI Power Plant to Barangay Poblacion in Quezon, while their Electrikalye activity was held at Barangay Aramaywan, Quezon with 60 residents in attendance.

Through these efforts, Paleco continues to demonstrate its commitment to proactive maintenance, community engagement, and the delivery of reliable service to its Member-Consumer-Owners (MCOs) across its franchise area.
