The management of Palawan Electric Cooperative (Paleco) extends its sincere apologies for the confusion caused to one of our consumers due to the appearance of a dollar sign ($) instead of the Philippine peso sign (₱) in his Statement of Account (SOA).

We wish to reiterate that as a duly registered electric cooperative, owned and operated by Filipinos, Paleco strictly accepts and utilizes only Philippine currency in all financial transactions.

The SOA in question was transmitted via email following the consumer’s enrollment in Paleco’s e-billing system. This document is automatically generated by the Cooperative’s e-billing program. It must be emphasized that the incorrect display of the currency sign is limited only to the symbol used, and does not in any way affect the accuracy of the billing computation.

Rest assured that the amounts reflected in the said SOA are correct, specifically: the current amount due of ₱6,898.27 and the outstanding balance of ₱19,475.38 representing three (3) months of unpaid bills. The billing system’s computation of charges based on electricity consumption per billing cycle functions independently from the encoding of currency symbols. Thus, while the symbol was displayed in error, the numerical values of the charges remain accurate.

Paleco’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Division has already issued the corrected SOA to the concerned consumer and has reviewed and rectified similar discrepancies in other SOAs to prevent recurrence.

Lastly, the management wishes to assure all member-consumer-owners (MCOs) that our offices remain open to accommodate inquiries, clarifications, and concerns regarding billing and other services.
